Getting here is easy.
From Tucson: travel south to Nogales, Arizona. Cross into
Mexico and take the four-lane Highway 15 south to Magdelena.
From Magdelena, travel southeast through the town of Curcupe
to Sinoquipe. From Sinoquipe, travel south 17 km to Banámici.
From New Mexico and east: Travel to Douglas, AZ then cross
into Agua Prieta. Purchase a Vehicle Permit at the Aduana
(second building on your right as you cross - park in back.) Head south through
town and take Highway 2 east to Cananea. following the sign
for the Ruta de Rio Sonora turn south towards Bacoachi and
Arizpe. From Arizpe, it is 25 miles further to Banámichi.
From Bisbee, drive south to Naco, AZ and cross to Naco, Sonora.
Obtain a visa then proceed south to Mexico Highway 2 and drive
west to Cananea. Turn left at the Obilesk in the traffic circle
and watch for signs for the Banjercito where you will purchase
a vehicle permit. With your permit, go back east past the
obilesk and turn right following the sign for the Ruta de
Rio Sonora (Sonora Hwy 118) to Bacoachi then south to Banámichi
as above.
In Banámichi, continue south past the town park and
turn right on Cuauhtemoc, just in front of the Ferramat Banámichi
as shown on the map.
You may find it easier to skip Naco/Cananea and obtain both
a visa and a vehicle permit in the same office by crossing
at Douglas, AZ, 27 miles east of Bisbee.
To obtain a vehicle permit, you must have your driver's license,
passport and your vehicle registration. A credit card is advised.
Be sure to purchase Mexican auto or motorcycle insurance as
your US policy will not cover you.
You will need to turn your vehicle pemit in before you cross
back into the US.
Be sure you have the correct documents to re-enter the US.
In most cases, a passport is required. Check the
US State Department web site for current info.
